Warm greetings from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK)! Hope this message finds all members of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki community having a great start into the New Year 2022. This January, we are inviting students of our partner universities to join us and welcome the Year of the Tiger while getting to know more about the traditions and rituals of celebrating new year in different cultures. Grateful if you could help share information about this virtual event with your students and encourage their participations.

Lunar New Year Celebration & Chinese Calligraphy

Date: 27 January 2022 (Thursday)

Time: 6 – 7 pm (Time in Hong Kong, GMT +8)

Language: English

A celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar, Lunar New Year, also called the Spring Festival, is widely celebrated in various regions. Apart from celebrations ranging from lion-dancing, fireworks to Lunar New Year food, emphases are also given on the year’s Chinese zodiac sign among the 12 animals (it is the Year of the Tiger this coming year) and Fai Chun (揮春) writing.

By registering for ZOOM Participation, students will have a chance to:

– Join students of different cultures for sharing and exchange of new year customs;

– Share their own new year wishes; and

– Learn more about the traditions of Fai Chun writing with Chinese Calligraphy demonstration*

*Together, the participants will select some of the new year wishes collected for Fai Chun writing during the event.

On the other hand, we would also like to take this opportunity to invite you and your students (if they are NOT available to join the Celebration event) to share some new year wishes with members of EdUHK. You are very welcome to share the new year wishes HERE.

We sincerely look forward to the participation of you and your students for a joy-filled celebration gathering. Should there be any questions, please feel free to contact us at inbound@eduhk.hk.
